Integrated Access Control - Panasonic

One BSIA member worked with Panasonic who design, manufacture and distribute electrical products, ranging from products in the home, on the move or at work, to provide a combined access control, time and attendance and personnel system for their site in Wales.

Panasonic employ hundreds of thousands of people world-wide and about 425 at their site in Newport, Gwent.
HR Manager, Sandra Connolly explained that they already had a system in place that was being removed from the market, so the support was also being taken away. Panasonic were offered a replacement product, but this was not an improvement so they had looked for something more flexible. Panasonic chose the BSIA company’s system because it had “some nice additional functionality” but also because they were willing to work with Panasonic to customise the system to suit their needs.

A new security system was installed and there were no problems with the hardware installation but there were a number of issues that had to be resolved with the software, some of which required particular customisation of the software for Panasonic.

Sandra and two other staff were trained in the use of the software at the suppliers training facility. Sandra described the quality of the training as good

The Panasonic system which was installed now handles access control, time and attendance, fire roll call, personnel, numerous custom reports, payroll interfaces and an automated overtime process. The objective being to create an integrated security system with the flexibility for report writing and other added functionality. Asked what she likes best about the new security system, Sandra replied “system flexibility and price.”

Sandra describes the system as: “Flexible at a competitive price. The system and the smart cards are very easy. After sales support from the Help Desk the engineering support has also been very helpful. Panasonic are now considering further software modifications in the areas of labour cost analysis and job pricing.”

Asked what she liked most about the BSIA member, Sandra said: “It’s flexibility” and she said she would be happy to recommend them to other companies but stressed the importance of getting any software modification specifications right.

Summing up the BSIA supplier in a few words Sandra concluded: “Their system has great flexibility and the potential to create a customer specific system as well as a very good standard system.”
