Custodial Facilities

  • Visitor monitoring system – HMP Wellingborough
    A BSIA member worked with HMP Wellingborough, a Category C Prison located in Northamptonshire, to provide a modern, computerised visitor monitoring system to stop visitors of inmates from using a false identification to gain access to the prison. The key requirements were that it had to be a secure system, easy to use and incorporated a photo ID system that was not open to abuse.

Educational Establishments

  • Smart cards - Guildhall School of Music and Drama
    Guildhall School of Music and Drama worked with a BSIA member to update their existing access control system to provide a complete security system. The school needed to replace its outdated access control system with one that clearly identifies and records who exactly has access to where, and at which time on all of the five separate sites, currently with around 2000 people accessing the different facilities.   • Multi site access control – Queen Mary University of London (QMUL)
    A BSIA member worked with Queen Mary University of London to provide a facility wide access control card solution, utilising one card database to centralise administration. One of the largest multi-campus colleges of the University of London, QMUL has more than 10,000 UK, European and international students attending four campuses.
  • Integrated security systems - Gloucestershire College
    One BSIA member worked with Gloucestershire College to provide effective security to a new state-of-the-art campus in Cheltenham. One of the greatest challenges for any education establishment is balancing the need to create an open and stimulating environment that encourages learning, whilst ensuring that people are protected from the threat of theft, vandalism, physical attack and abuse.
  • School information management system (SIMS) – Harrow High School
    Harrow High School worked with a BSIA member to integrate their access control systems and school information management system (SIMS).
  • Access control and CCTV – Reaseheath College
    Reaseheath College, Cheshire, worked with a BSIA member to improve its limited number of access control systems and CCTV cameras to enhance their security arrangement to be able to monitor their huge site for any potential problems as well as enabling out of hours access to certain areas of the campus.

Manufacturing Sites

  • Time and attendance - Imperial Tobacco
    One BSIA member installed a combined access control and time and attendance system to an Imperial Tobacco site. The system checks an employee's badge against their security access patterns, only allowing authorised personnel access.   • Integrated access control - Ultimate Packaging
    A BSIA member was used to install a fully integrated access control, time and attendance and HR system for Ultimate Packaging. The system took advantage of non-contact Smart Cards to allow easy access for authorised personnel. The system was also interfaced with the company's existing intruder alarm and CCTV systems.   • Time and attendance and integrated security - EDF
    A BSIA member has supplied a time and attendance and integrated security system to major electricity generator EDF. The system comprised Smart Card visitor management, time and attendance and access control including automatic door monitoring and fire roll call monitoring. Further physical access control comprising two turnstiles, a sliding gate and five traffic barriers have also been added.   • Wireless IP system - Air Products
    One BSIA member worked with Air Products, a leading global supplier of chemical products, services and solutions, who wanted to ensure the successful roll-out of a new security system across Europe following the successful implementation of an earlier security solution at 15 UK sites.
  • Integrated systems - BMW
    A BSIA member worked with BMW, an international brand leader in the motor industry, to provide a solution that enhanced protection for BMW staff, customers, visitors and assets. BMW wished to minimise the risk of site incursions by trespassers, theft of vehicles and the growing threat of arson. It also needed to improve its CCTV equipment and fragmented access control measures while ensuring that site cabling was upgraded to support replacement systems. To address all of these, BMW specified a cost-effective, self-sufficient security solution requiring minimal human intervention and supervision.
  • Integrated systems - Aspray Transport
    A BSIA member worked with Aspray Transport to provide an integrated security system comprising access control, time & attendance and personnel for their eleven sites throughout the UK, employing over 500 people. They chose a system from a BSIA company because of the Smart Card application and the way in which the system could be distributed across different locations. They also saw there was room for future development if necessary.
  • Combined time and attendance and access control - Brayford Plastics
    One BSIA member worked with Brayford Plastics Ltd, who operate two manufacturing plants within the UK, to provide an access control and time and attendance system via an integrated system which could provide both functions.
  • Upgrade to an integrated system - D S Smith
    A BSIA member worked with D S Smith, an international packaging, producer and manufacturing company who employ 12,000 people, 7,600 of which are in the UK, to provide a comprehensive security and time & attendance system that would be an upgrade of their existing manual system and which could provide an automated Fire Roll Call facility. The BSIA company was able to provide a suitable upgraded system for a competitive price.
  • Integrated security system - Hagemayer
    A BSIA member worked with Hagemayer to provide an access control system that would segregate access within their building and also provide time recording for staff.
  • Time and Attendance - Fläkt Woods
    A BSIA member worked with Fläkt Woods, a global company providing solutions for ventilation and air treatment for buildings as well as fan solutions for Industry and infrastructure applications, to install a new Time and Attendance system when they moved premises, replacing the current system which was over 10 years old. The company now required an integrated system for their 400 staff at their new UK manufacturing facility in Colchester.
  • Integrated Access Control - Panasonic
    One BSIA member worked with Panasonic who design, manufacture and distribute electrical products, ranging from products in the home, on the move or at work, to provide a combined access control, time and attendance and personnel system for their site in Wales.
  • Time and Attendance - Premier Foods
    One BSIA member worked with Premier Foods to implement a Time and Attendance solution to ensure they maximised their investment in Systems, Applications and Products (SAP) for data processing. Premier Foods wanted to work with a company who had a proven track record, a certified interface into SAP HR, and one who could provide a solution using the latest SAP XI interface technology.

Office Buildings

  • Speedgates - Microsoft
    After a review of their security system at their site in Dublin, Microsoft wanted to make their access control system more efficient to handle an increased volume of employees. It was deemed necessary to upgrade the security system to create a secure perimeter inside the premises making sure only authorised staff and visitors progressed further into the building.   • Tailgating - Gemplus
    One BSIA member worked with Gemplus, provider of solutions empowered by Smart cards, who due to the nature of their organisation wanted to focus on who gained access through a door once it had been opened with the need for a high level of security on key access points. They found that their existing access control system was effective whilst the door was closed, however they were vulnerable to unauthorised entry once a door was open.   • Integrated Access Control and CCTV - Marsh and McLennan
    One BSIA member worked with Marsh, a leading risk and insurance services firm which is part of the Marsh & McLennan (MMC) family of companies with 55,000 employees serving clients in over a hundred countries. To support ambitious growth plans, Marsh wanted to deliver security system installation and maintenance across its expanding UK portfolio.
  • Remotely monitored security systems – Barings
    One BSIA member worked with Barings, a global investment management firm, during the opening of new premises for its European Data Centre which needed to synchronise security between its new building and its long-established City headquarters.
  • Time and Attendance and Access Control - South Buckinghamshire Council
    A BSIA member worked with South Buckinghamshire District Council, who employ 250 staff of which the majority are based at their new offices in Capswood, Denham, to install an integrated Time & Attendance and Access Control system.
  • Increased security via remote monitoring - SBJ Group Ltd
    One BSIA member worked with SBJ Group Ltd to increase the general security of their two sites in Central London and to also improve the safety of the staff working within the buildings.
  • Complete security solution - Euromax
    One BSIA member worked with Euromax, part of ManeTCI Group to provide a new system which would provide access control and time management functions. It was expected that the business would be increasing its workforce considerably and therefore a system was required which could expand as the company grew.

Travel Leisure and Tourism

  • Complete door security – YOTEL Heathrow
    A BSIA member worked with YOTEL Heathrow to install an access control system on 32 cabins, following their YOTEL Gatwick installation. Situated inside Terminal 4 at London Heathrow aiport, YOTEL is a revolutionary new hotel concept which is inspired by first-class airline cabins.
  • Control and monitoring system – Bristol International Airport
    Bristol International Airport worked with a BSIA member to provide a complete security control and monitoring system for the airport that had to meet the new Department for Transport MATRA requirements for airport security.
