Friday 2 May, 2008Security systems to be 'groomed out' during 21CN Cardiff trialSecurity systems in Cardiff will be 'groomed out' of the BT 21st Century Network (21CN) Cardiff trial as a result of work undertaken by the British Security Industry Association.
BSIA Technical Director, Alex Carmichael, comments: "It is expected that around 75,000 Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) lines in the Cardiff area will be migrated over to the new BT 21st Century Network over the next 12 months in a controlled trial. To safeguard security industry customers during this trial, those PSTN lines on which we are aware there is security equipment will be 'groomed out'. This means that the security equipment will be transferred back to the current communications network until the testing is complete and we fully understand the impact 21CN may have on security equipment."
"This decision has been made as a result of the ongoing work that the BSIA is undertaking testing equipment on the new network and as a result of our ongoing liaison with BT. Until we have found more answers to our concerns around the compatibility of 21CN with security systems, it seems unnecessary to put customers, installers and Alarm Receiving Centres through the potential disruption of the 21CN trial. Once we have gone through further testing, new and some existing security communications equipment will be suitable for operation on 21CN and the issues with the legacy communication devices should be minimised or clarified."
If you are an installer or an ARC in the Cardiff area and the BSIA is not already aware that you have systems in place in that area, contact the BSIA Technical Department on 0845 389 3889 with the details to ensure your systems are 'groomed out'.
