Monday 5 May, 2008BSIA publishes external detection guideThe British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has published a guide to the use of external detection in BS8418 CCTV systems.
The guide, which can be viewed by visiting www.bsia.co.uk/cctv, is intended to assist those involved in determining operational requirements for BS8418 detector activated CCTV systems in how to select, install and commission the external detection equipment associated with such systems in the interests of limiting unwanted activations.
"Detectors are at the very frontline of CCTV detection, but the BSIA identified that there was little guidance available on their selection and use," says Pauline Norstrom, BSIA CCTV Section Chairman. “This new guide is intended to provide additional support and information to aid installers and Remote Video Response Centres (RVRC) in accordance with British Standard BS8418 which requires detector activated CCTV systems be installed to best practice.”
“In order to obtain Unique Reference Numbers (URNs) to gain police response for detector activated CCTV systems under the ACPO Security Systems Policy, installers need to comply fully with BS8418 and to be approved/recognised by an inspectorate holding the appropriate scope of accreditation from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). RVRCs play a significant part in the response to activations, so it is of great importance that detection systems are reliable to minimise wasted resource at the centre.”
