BSIA encourages all installers to respond to PD6662 consultation

The British Security Industry Association is encouraging all installers to input their views during the consultation on the revision of PD6662; the first stage of which closes at the end of February.

BSIA Technical and Membership Services Director, Alex Carmichael, comments: "There has been relative stability in the industry since the last main revision of PD6662 in 2004. The revision of the scheme document this year marks the penultimate major change to PD6662 and is necessary due to the publication of EN50131-1:2006, the upgrading of a number of Technical Specifications, and the publication of a number of British Standards and codes of practice."

"Due to the extent of revision required in order to harmonise all these documents, it is imperative that installers review the current standards that they are working to and input their views on how they can be amended. The BSIA will be formulating a response based on input from its members and other trade associations and inspectorates are likely to be doing the same. Installers that do not belong to any such organisation can send comments directly to BSI."

"It is expected that the revision of PD6662 will be complete at the end of the year and an implementation date will be imposed to allow for the dual-running of PD6662:2004 and the revised PD6662:2008. This will allow manufacturers the time to redesign, test and debug any new products and get them into the supply chain."

"Finally, installers should try to keep abreast of the changes as they come in – this is where membership of a trade association comes into its own. The BSIA will keep its members up-to-date with the changes and will ensure that they are informed in plenty of time in order to minimise any effect on their business."
