Membership Structure

To reflect the diversity of the security industry, the Association is split into a number of different sections. The BSIA's sections operate as semi-autonomous groups under BSIA control and are devoted to the needs of companies operating in a particular sector of the industry. The BSIA's sections are as follows:

With the exception of Associates and Overseas Associates, each Section has a dedicated Committee elected annually by the Section members. The Security Guarding and Systems Sections also run active regional committees across the UK, providing a local forum for training, discussion, activities and meetings.

Membership Criteria

All applicants must satisfy the council of the Association:

  • That their Directors and Senior Executives are of good repute;
  • That they are financially sound;
  • That they have adequate insurance coverage in place to cover all potential liability arising through the conduct of their business;
  • That their organisation is soundly managed and that they conduct their business in a professional manner;
  • That their employees conduct themselves in a proper manner;
  • That their admission would be to the advantage of the Association and the security industry;
  • Where appropriate ISO 9001:2000 certification by a UKAS accredited certification body.

In addition, companies must comply with specific membership criteria related to the particular sector of the security industry in which they operate. These criteria are available on request.

Export Council

Membership of the Export Council is open to all members of the BSIA that are actively involved in exporting UK-manufactured products or services. To be eligible to join, a company must already be a member of a BSIA section.

Associates to the BSIA

Associate Membership is open to companies who supply products or services to, or as part of, the security industry, but which do not provide security solutions themselves e.g. uniform suppliers, training providers, software companies, etc. ISO 9001:2000 is preferable but not essential for Associate Membership. Checks will be made by the BSIA to ensure that the company is financially sound and operates professionally.

Overseas Associates

Overseas Associate Membership is open to security companies registered and trading outside of the United Kingdom who would like to be updated on developments within the British security industry. Checks will be made by the BSIA to ensure that the company is financially sound and operates professionally.
