Key security – First Great Western
One BSIA member worked with First Great Western; who operate high speed, commuter, regional and branch line train services, to provide their customers with travel that is safe, reliable and enjoyable, to provide a selective opening device on high speed trains that would help ensure the passengers safety when alighting the train at shorter platforms.
The BSIA member was able to provide a solution which allows the train manager to control the automatic locking and unlocking device for the train doors. The train manager can stand at the last car level with the end of the platform and by simply inserting their unique key into the key switch can prevent the carriage doors beyond the platform unlocking automatically with the rest of the train. The system is a success due to its efficiency and simplicity.
Keys are only issued to authorised First Great Western staff to provide a high level of organisational control, with users requiring only to carry one key. The system allows other products to be included if necessary.
This system can be used across many industrial applications where security and safety requirements demand a high level of key security such as: Public buildings, universities, hospitals, offices and homes.
