Marking makes industrial estate a 'no go' area

A BSIA member worked with a group of businesses to make the biggest industrial estate in Winsford, Cheshire, a 'no go' area for criminals through the use of forensic marking.

A total of 120 businesses on the estate worked with the BSIA member after a spate of burglaries which saw £500,000 of property stolen during a six-month period.

The marking product which the member company provided is a water-based adhesive with a locked in DNA code, in addition to a unique microdot and UV marker protection that cannot be replicated or de-coded.
This immediately makes any marked goods too risky to possess for thieves as any stolen goods can be irrefutably linked to a crime scene.

Winsford Industrial Estate Manager, Mike Kelly, said: "Using forensic marking on the estate provided a very cost effective way to more or less eliminate crime on the estate overnight. This collective approach to crime has resulted in the Winsford Industrial Estate becoming a much safer place for both the businesses and their employees."
