Registered bike returned to owner
One BSIA member launched a high-profie visible-marking campaign involving bikes belonging to MPs, Peers and parliamentary workers from the Houses of Parliament at Westminster, during which a bike was stolen and successfully returned to the owner.
The bike was marked with a specially allocated serial number and the contact details and model number of the bike were placed on a secure online register, owned by the BSIA member.
Upon recovery of the bike it was taken to Snow Hill police station, City of London and it was found that the bike belonged to a parliamentary IT worker called Bonnie O'Shea.
Darren Francis of Snow Hill police station, said:
"We check all the bikes that are recovered to see if they are marked. It is the quickest way for us to establish identity. Fortunately, there was a marking on this particular bike and we were able to access Bonnie's information from the database. She was delighted when we called to say that we had found her bike."Bonnie said:
"I think the secure bike database is a great idea. There is no way I would have got my bike back without it. My bike is so important to me because I use it everyday and it is my main form of transport in London. I was really upset to think it had been stolen and relieved that it was recovered so quickly."Click here to find a BSIA member who can provide you with a property marking solution.
