School feels safer thanks to CCTV system

When Weston Hills School moved to a new state of the art building, their governing county council decided that a CCTV system was needed. The council’s original brief was for a cost-effective system, which was monitored and recorded onto a digital recorder at the school.

However, the headmistress soon realised the system had limited functionality and would not prevent incidents occurring at the school when it was closed. She was particularly worried that the building was timber built with the possibility of an arson attack being a prime consideration.

A BSIA member was called in to help the school. They replaced the existing CCTV system with a new detector-activated remotely monitored system, which includes two high speed colour/monochrome domes, two fixed position cameras and 18 external movement detectors.

The system became the first BS 8418 compliant CCTV system in Lincolnshire and it is only these systems that can achieve police level one response.

As a result, the headmistress feels happier when leaving the school knowing that the building is being monitored and looked after when it is unoccupied.
