Civil Aviation Security Case Studies

  • High security solution - Keflavik International Airport
One BSIA member worked with Keflavik International Aiport (KIA) during their expansion work. The airport operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and required a highly reliable security solution that could be customised to meet their specific environment, as well as help secure the 1.8 million passengers they service per year.
  • State-of-the-art card readers - British Airport Authority
A BSIA member has worked with BAA to control access at its airports for over fifteen years. Today, the seven airports combined have more than 3500 card readers installed and over 240,000 active cardholders with the systems handling more than 4.5 million card swipes per month.
  • Integrated business solution – Gatwick Airport
One BSIA member has been working with Gatwick Airport for more than fifteen years, implementing its security management solution. Of the many airports using the same BSIA member system, Gatwick certainly illustrates the system’s comprehensive capabilities, resilience and true flexibility to be tailored to meet client needs. From its initial installation, the BSIA member has worked with BAA Gatwick to develop the system in response to its changing needs and to offer more than simply an access control solution.
  • Expansion and Upgrade - Vancouver International Airport (YVR)
One BSIA member is working with Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to embark upon a capital program with a two-phased expansion of its International Terminal Building (ITB) to include a new “West Wing”. YVR has successfully used a BSIA member system for the last eight years but this project would also include a major upgrade of the existing 380 card readers and 120 additional readers for the West Wing, to a powerful and fully integrated system.
  • Customised access control solution at Hong Kong International Airport
One BSIA member worked with Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) to provide a customised access control solution for the airport.
  • Flexible security system for Port of Cork
The Port of Cork is the principal port in the south east of Ireland close to the major shipping lanes to Northern Europe. It is Ireland’s premier trading port to continental Europe with ultra-modern facilities handling all modes of traffic so consequently an advanced and fully integrated security management system was needed.
  • Robin Hood Airport is a landmark in security systems
Once the international Robin Hood Airport had been built, operators Peel Airports Group sought to find a high quality and fully integrated security management solution. A BSIA member was selected to supply their airport edition security package, which involves access control and passenger reconciliation systems.
  • BSIA member secures Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5
Heathrow airport is one of the world's busiest international airports consisting of five terminals and serving over 180 destinations in 90 countries. The newest addition to the airport is Terminal 5 (T5) and at £4.3 billion it is the largest aviation implementation in the UK covering 260 hectares. Due to their technology, a BSIA member was picked as an ideal choice for securing the terminal.
