Why use a BSIA Information Destruction Section member?
All BSIA Information Destruction Section members are Quality Assured companies that are required to meet specific high standards. In order to become a member, each organisation must have been in business for at least two years and must demonstrate that they are financially sound, well-managed, fully-insured and professionally competent. In order to prove that they are financially sound, the member must provide two years of trading accounts and senior managers and directors will have their credentials and background checked.
All section members must meet the European Standard EN 15713:2009. This provides recommendations for the management and control of the collection, transportation and destruction of confidential material to ensure it is disposed of securely and safely.
The standard also includes material specific shred sizes, requirements regarding the installation of a monitored intruder alarm and a monitored CCTV system, a prerequisite for the security vetting of all staff and obligations with regard to the security of collection vehicles and on-site destruction vehicles.
BSIA ID companies also meet the Association’s rigorous membership criteria, including British Standard 7858 (containing staff vetting) and the quality management standard ISO 9001:2000.
BSIA members have introduced their own Code of Ethics as a further commitment to their customers. The code has been prepared to safeguard the interests of customers of BSIA ID members by promoting and maintaining a high standard of customer service and benefits and governs all areas that affect users of an information destruction service. It also requires members to review all aspects of their business in relation to the way it affects the environment.
