Advice and Guidance

The provision of advice and guidance to businesses and consumers is a key factor in raising awareness and understanding of the capability, value and quality of BSIA member security companies, promoting their products and services as a key investment component in protecting customers' people and assets.

Educating the marketplace on the value of choosing a reputable security supplier is therefore one of the BSIA's most important functions, while the guidance and education provided by the Association is also essential in providing its members with a competitive edge. The BSIA develops a range of new guides and publications, providing advice on a range of issues, from navigating the complex CCTV landscape to protecting vacant properties.

The BSIA also provides advice to its members on how forthcoming legislation and standards will affect their businesses, ensuring that BSIA members are prepared for change and can remain one step ahead of their competitors.

Most Downloaded: Code of Practice for the planning, design, installation and operation of CCTV systems

This Code of Practice and associated guidance is one of the BSIA's most popular downloads. CCTV surveillance systems are frequently the subject of debate. Some parties seek to promote their benefits such as their use in criminal investigations and providing a feeling of safety to the public. This code of practice has been prepared to assist in this process by taking account of the various standards for CCTV systems, and presenting them in a useable framework showing the “building blocks” necessary to achieve an effective security surveillance solution.
