James Brown – Chairman of the Asset and Property Marking Section
James Brown is the Managing Director of BSIA member Selectamark Security Systems plc, the company he joined in 2002. Prior to that, James worked for the Japanese trading company Marubeni Corporation, having graduated from the University of Southampton in 1998. At Selectamark, James started his career in the security industry as a Sales Executive, and was appointed Sales Director in 2006, before becoming Managing Director in 2014.
The company is a family-owned SME based in Kent, and the Selectamark range of products are sold in over 40 countries worldwide. He has first-hand experience of developing and testing both overt and covert asset, offender and property marking solutions, such as chemical etching, microdot technology, RFID/electronic tagging and DNA forensic marking.
Working at Selectamark has also given James experience and knowledge of security sectors and Police Forces from many countries around the world. James is an active contributor to ‘Banknote Watch’ – the organisation set up to assist the Police, the public and retailers in identifying stolen banknotes as a result of commercial robberies. He has also been part of security working groups set up by UK Police Forces, to provide an industry perspective on reducing acquisitive crime. He is also a member of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals, and in 2013 became one of the youngest members to become a Liveryman of the company.
