Joining the BSIA's CCTV Section

Companies wishing to join the BSIA's CCTV Section must meet the following criteria in order to be admitted to the section: 

CCTV Section Criteria

CCTV Section member – Installer / maintainer 
i) A company able to demonstrate that either 90% of their turnover is derived from CCTV activities or that the turnover derived from CCTV activities is not less than £500,000.
ii) A company shall have specialised staff dealing with such installations.
iii) Companies dealing with detector activated CCTV systems that are connected to an RVRC and require a Police URN must comply with the standards stated in 

CCTV Section member – Distributor or Supplier
A company supplying but not installing electronic CCTV equipment. A CCTV equipment manufacturer may not have 50% or more of the equity of such a company.

CCTV Section member – Equipment Manufacturer
A company engaged in the manufacture and/or assembly of CCTV equipment and/or having design and development facilities or full customer services/warranty facilities within the UK.

Note: Manufacturers who do not have a turnover within the European Community may only apply to become an Associate member.

CCTV Section member – CCTV monitoring centre
A company which provides the management, staffing and operation to manage images from CCTV systems.

CCTV Section member – Remote Video Response Centre (RVRC)
A company which provides the management, staffing and operation to manage a response to an activation from a detector activated CCTV system.

CCTV Standards Applicable

In accordance with clause 2.7 of the Model Rules for Sections of the BSIA, members should ensure that all employees whose employment may involve them in the acquisition of, or access to, knowledge of a confidential nature, improper use of which could involve the member, any client of the member or a third party in a security risk shall be screened prior to employment with the object of ascertaining by examination of a prospective employees' background that they are of good character. Such employees shall be security screened in accordance with the following standard:

BS 7858 – “Security screening of individuals employed in a security environment”

CCTV system member – Installer / maintainer
i) Companies shall install and maintain CCTV systems in accordance with:

BSIA Form No. 109 – Planning, design, installation and operation of CCTV surveillance systems – Code of practice and associated guidance 

BS EN 50132-7 “CCTV surveillance systems for use in security applications”

ii) Digital CCTV Recording Systems should be specified, selected, installed and operated in accordance with the latest version of the following:

BS 8495 – “Code of Practice for digital CCTV recording systems for the purpose of image export to be used as evidence”.

iii) Installers and maintainers of detector activated CCTV systems that are connected to an RVRC and require a Police URN shall comply with the following:

BS 8418 – “Installation and remote monitoring of detector activated CCTV systems”. 
  
CCTV system member

CCTV Monitoring Centres should have a high standard of physical security, staff facilities and should comply with the latest version of the following:
BS 7958 – “Closed Circuit Television CCTV/Management and Operation”
BS 5979 – “Remote Centres receiving signals from security systems”.

CCTV system member – CCTV Remote Video Response Centres (RVRC)
RVRCs should have a high standard of physical security and staff facilities, and should comply with the latest version of the following:

BS 8418 – “Installation and remote monitoring of detector activated CCTV systems”.
BS 5979 – “Remote Centres receiving signals from security systems – Cat II”.

CCTV system member – Equipment manufacturer
Shall comply with current legislation and manufacture products designed to recognized industry standards.

CCTV system member – Equipment distributor / supplier
Shall comply with current legislation and industry standards.

CCTV Section Employee Training

Members shall ensure that all staff receive adequate and regular training.
