Security Personnel Awards 2018

The BSIA's Security Personnel Awards serve to reward security officers for their dedication, loyalty, teamwork, customer service skills, use of technology and bravery. They are presented both regionally and nationally in five categories:

  • Service to the Customer
  • Outstanding Act
  • Best Use of Technology
  • Best Team
  • Best Newcomer

Regional winners are automatically put through to the National round.

The key dates for the 2018 awards are as follows:

National awards presentation – July 2018

How to Enter

Entry to the 2018 Security Personnel Awards is open to BSIA member companies only.

This award recognises the individual who has given an outstanding service to the customer, for example by providing consistently excellent service, assuming a wide range of new responsibilities or preventing crimes through their vigilance, impacting significantly on security improvement or general operation of the end-user organisation. It could also involve a combination of these types of achievement.

outstanding-actOutstanding Act

From time to time, an unusual and difficult situation may arise which tests security personnel to the full in terms of their skills, initiative, and their ability to act speedily, appropriately and possibly in a dangerous situation. Examples include dealing with a violent individual; using detection skills to solve a crime; fighting a fire; performing life-saving first aid; preventing an individual from committing suicide.

best-use-technologyBest Use of Technology

This award recognises the individual or team who have made the most effective use of technology in undertaking their duties. This could be a project resulting a major impact on reducing crime; an individual or team involved in responding to alarms; individuals involved in the operation of complex internal security systems and/or who have been involved in the process of introducing a new system.

This category applies to teams of three or more individuals who have worked effectively together to provide an excellent service. (If two personnel have worked together, these would be considered as joint winners in other categories.)

best-newcomerBest Newcomer

It is important to encourage new entrants to the security industry and highlight the long-term career prospects. This award honours the new security operative who has shown outstanding promise – to be eligible for this award they must have been a security operative for no longer than two years at the time of sending in the nomination form for these awards.  Both individuals who have just started out in the world of work and those who have become security personnel as a career change later in life are eligible.
