Statement to new Statistics from the ONS

Tuesday 26 January 2021 - BSIA Comms

The British Security Industry Association have regular meetings with their Health & Safety and HR Interest group which spans the length and breadth of the professional security industry. Our members have worked tirelessly throughout this pandemic and it is a difficult read to see the figures increase from 45.7 per 100,000 based on Corps Security’s research in May 2020 to the now 100.7 deaths per 100,000.

Figures of positive COVID-19 cases are recorded mainly internally with company-wide tracking systems in place alongside those that are vulnerable, shielding and currently self-isolating. Members engage closely with Public Health agencies across the UK to ensure key worker security officers on the frontline receive best practice guidance on staying safe.

Every day is another day to improve on existing measures within the workplace.  Members have talked to us about ensuring COVID Secure measures are in place including the provision of PPE and hygiene supplies, continuous risk assessments, engaging with union and trade bodies, communicating with workers both on the frontline and those working from home, supporting officer wellbeing and mental health training to manage changing feelings based on developments in the pandemic, and engagement panels which include daily briefings with information and contact information for those needing or wanting help or knowledge.
