SecuriGroup Congratulates the UK's First Front-line Security Apprentices

Tuesday 13 September 2022 -

SecuriGroup's Marcia Mackay and Owen Hartness have become the first candidates in the country to have completed the new Level 5 SVQ Apprenticeship in Providing Security Officer Services.

The programme, developed jointly by Skills for Security and SecuriGroup, with the support of Glasgow City Council and the BSIA, is the first apprenticeship for front-line security personnel in the UK.

Marcia commented: 'I have really enjoyed the apprenticeship and the challenges it presented. I would recommend this pathway for everyone, and now hope to progress onto my supervisor training.'

Marcia and Owen completed the 12-month pilot which incorporated the licence-linked SIA training, H&S, First Aid, Fire Safety, and Mental Health Awareness. Both candidates undertook CPD which included Action Counters Terrorism (ACT), Equality and Diversity, and Safeguarding.

SecuriGroup Managing Director, Russel Kerr, said: 'As an Investors in People Gold organisation, the development of our excellent front-line colleagues is vital. I congratulate Marcia and Owen on their inspiring achievement, and commend the SecuriGroup Academy team for making this happen.'

Training & Development Manager, David Brook, said: 'Marcia and Owen's commitment throughout the programme was exemplary. SecuriGroup has enrolled a further 24 apprentices on the programme, increasing to 40 by the end of this year. This successful pilot has underlined the value in investing in apprenticeships, and developing security professionals of the future.'
