Tuesday 26 October 2021 - BSIA Comms

The BSIA’s training arm, Skills for Security (SfS) has partnered with TIS Academy by agreeing to train their apprentices.

TIS Academy, powered by Skills for Security, will be enrolling twenty new apprentices on a bespoke apprenticeship initiative. Total Integrated Solutions (TIS) will use SfS technical training experience to deliver the apprenticeship training at TIS head office in Mansfield, allowing TIS to grow, nurture and create their own engineers of tomorrow.

The SfS team have been developing the curriculum of excellence which starts this week. The apprenticeship programme covers all typical areas of the sector - Fire Alarms, CCTV, Intruder and Access Control systems. As it is a bespoke package it also includes additional technical areas around networking, integration of systems, company culture, ethos and behaviours. They design, install and maintain smart, reliable and highly-compliant life safety, security and communications solutions for retirement villages, care homes, universities, public spaces and the Ministry of Defence.

James Twigg, CEO, TIS said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with Skills for Security on the launch of our new Academy.  The Academy is a critical part of our future strategy and it is essential that we partner with the best in order to produce the next generation of leading engineers.  We have definitely found that in Skills for Security and cannot wait to get started.”

David Scott, Managing Director, Skills for Security added: “We are really looking forward to delivering our first class training to TIS Academy’s apprentices. It is really inspiring to work with like-minded people who are passionate about improving the standard of training, reducing the skills shortage and widening participation of apprenticeship training programmes for fire and security industry.”

Skills for Security offers training, specialist services, information, advice and guidance to employers, employees and trainers in the private security sector.

Like many sectors, the UK’s private security sector has a need to continually improve its skills in order to remain competitive and relevant in an ever-changing world. Our role is to help organisations to devise, plan, budget for, implement and measure skills-development programmes and apprenticeships. This can include helping them to use funds set aside by the Apprenticeship Levy to establish their own learning academy.

Skills for Security have witnessed significant growth since August, where apprenticeship numbers have risen from 119 to over 350 on our training program. This level of growth has been due to a mixture of increased employer engagement and improved delivery of high quality learning and teaching. This growth seen in the previous 6 months has been forecasted to continue for the remainder of 2021, with over 40 employers reserving spots on program over the months of April and June with Skills for Security.

The British Security Industry Association, as the voice of the professional security industry, represents multiple sectors of private security in the UK. Its members provide over 70% of the UK’s security products, services and they adhere to strict quality standards. For more information visit
