The Government has announced that, from tomorrow, employers will be able to sign up to the Youth Jobs Grant—a £3,000 incentive to support employers to hire young people who have been out of work for six months. Further information about how employers can sign up is available here.
To mark its launch, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and the Prime Minister chaired a roundtable at No. 10 this morning with employers from the hospitality sector. This included Merlin Entertainments, who have committed to offering 300 roles through the Jobs Guarantee scheme. The Jobs Guarantee is another element of the Youth Guarantee, which will provide every eligible 18–24-year-old who has been on Universal Credit (UC) and looking for work for 18 months with a six-month paid job. These roles will be for up to 25 hours per week, at the National Minimum Wage, with the Government covering 100% of employment costs.
In addition, from today, jobcentres across Great Britain will begin delivering expanded support. This will provide young people with a structured pathway into sustained employment from their first visit, including access to jobs, apprenticeships, work experience, vocational training, and further education opportunities.
