The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has welcomed the appointment of Dan Jarvis MBE MP as Minister of State (Security Minister), following changes to the Government's ministerial team announced on 21 July 2026. According to the UK Government, Mr Jarvis resumed the Security Minister role on 21 July, having most recently served as Secretary of State for Defence.
Mr Jarvis is well known to the security sector, having previously held responsibility for the security portfolio between July 2024 and June 2026. During that period, he oversaw a number of significant developments affecting the private security industry, including progress towards the implementation of Martyn’s Law, wider discussions around regulatory reform and industry standards, and the introduction of the S12 Security Guarding Leadership Group.
The Security Minister role spans both the Home Office and Cabinet Office and carries responsibility for national security, resilience, counter-terrorism and oversight of the Security Industry Authority (SIA).
