BSIA and the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS)
The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) is represented on the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS) Management Committee, an industry-led body responsible for developing and maintaining the competency and assessment framework used by Certification and Registration Bodies within the electrotechnical sector.
The EAS establishes the minimum technical competence, safety, and assessment requirements that organisations must meet to be recognised as competent to undertake electrotechnical work. It also supports the development of qualification pathways, assessment criteria and competency requirements for qualified supervisors, inspectors and others working across the electrotechnical industry.
As a member of the EAS Management Committee, BSIA contributes a security industry perspective to discussions on competence, certification, qualifications, and workforce development. While the EAS is primarily focused on the electrical installation sector, many of its principles around occupational competence, assessment, training, and professional standards align closely with challenges faced within the private security industry.
Participation in the committee helps ensure that BSIA remains informed about wider industry developments relating to competence frameworks, technical qualifications, building safety requirements and emerging workforce standards. This insight supports the Association's work in promoting professionalism, skills development, and competency pathways across the security sector.
The EAS Management Committee includes representatives from industry bodies, government, consumer safety organisations, certification bodies, awarding organisations, and other stakeholders with responsibility for improving competence and safety within the electrotechnical industry.
Through its participation, BSIA helps maintain awareness of cross-sector competency initiatives and contributes to discussions that may influence future approaches to skills, professional standards and certification across related industries.
