1st September 2026 – Sentinel Group has promoted Rob Whiffing from Managing Director of Sentinel Group Security (SGS) into the newly created role of Chief Commercial Officer. In his new group position, Rob will help deliver Sentinel’s five-year growth plan and develop the wider range of services available to customers.

Now in its 21st year, Sentinel Group has moved beyond its traditional security roots. Frontline security remains at the heart of the business, the group also provides technology, training, mobile services and 24/7 operational support.

Rob has more than 20 years’ experience across the security, charity and hospitality sectors, bringing a practical understanding of operations, customers and frontline delivery to the new role.

As Chief Commercial Officer, Rob will work across SGS, Sentinel Technology, Sentinel Academy and Skye Guarding. He will focus on connecting the Group’s services more effectively, developing new areas of support and building partnerships that extend Sentinel’s capability across the UK.

Rob said:

“When I speak to customers, they rarely talk about one service in isolation. They talk about the pressures they are facing: keeping people safe, managing sites out of hours, responding quickly when something happens and having a clearer view of what is happening across their estate.

“My role is to make sure Sentinel can answer those challenges in a straightforward way, using the right mix of people, technology, training, monitoring and response. We already have much of that capability within the Group. The next step is to connect it properly.”

Rob’s promotion comes as protective security moves higher up the agenda across hospitality, retail, leisure and other industries. The Security Industry Authority estimates that around 179,000 premises will fall within the scope of Martyn’s Law when it comes into force. The legal duties will sit with the qualifying premises, with requirements varying according to the number of people expected. For Sentinel, this is one example of why customers are looking more closely at how people, training, technology, monitoring and response work together.

Sentinel plans to grow its Soft Services, Key Holding, Alarm Response and Mobile Patrol capability while continuing to develop its workforce-management platform, smart security technology and National Operations Centre. Technology will be used to give frontline teams better information, monitoring and support so they can work more safely and effectively, not as a replacement of officers.

Alongside its core services, Sentinel Group will explore complementary soft and hard services where they naturally support a customer’s security and operational needs. Some services will be delivered directly by Sentinel, while others will be provided through trusted specialists in mobile response, CCTV, access control, alarms and remote monitoring.

This approach will give customers access to wider coverage and specialist expertise while Sentinel remains responsible for bringing the solution together and accountable for the service delivered.

Rob added:

“We do not want to be all things to all people, but we do want customers to feel they can bring us a security or operational challenge. We can then look across the Group and our partner network, be honest about what we can deliver and put the right solution together.

“Sentinel has grown because of its people and the relationships we have built with customers. That will not change. The next five years are about building on what already works, developing our existing accounts, creating new services and partnerships, and growing sustainably without losing the values that have brought us this far.”

For customers, Rob’s promotion means simpler access to more of Sentinel’s services and a continued focus on long-term relationships. For colleagues, the Group’s growth will create opportunities to develop new skills, work with new technology and progress across the business.
