We are delighted to announce that the BSIA has been announced a finalist in the Trade Association of the Year category at the 2026 Security & Fire Awards for Excellence.
The BSIA exists to raise standards, champion best practice and support a trusted, resilient and professional security industry. Over the last 12 months, the Association has focused on driving professionalism, influencing standards, supporting legislative readiness, developing the workforce and ensuring the sector has access to trusted guidance, knowledge and practical support. Our areas of focus have included:
- Raising technical and operational standards.
- Publishing authoritative guidance and best practice resources.
- Supporting members through legislative and regulatory change.
- Promoting professionalism and industry recognition.
- Developing future talent and improving workforce diversity.
- Expanding access to trusted industry knowledge through digital channels.
During the last 12 months, the BSIA published 11 new or updated guidance documents, covering areas such as cyber resilience, workforce wellbeing, information destruction, security technologies and emerging legislation. These resources recorded 500+ publication downloads, helping security providers, buyers and specifiers navigate an increasingly complex technical, regulatory and operational environment.
- The BSIA has also delivered a programme of initiatives and campaigns that respond directly to changing market needs, emerging threats and organisational priorities. These include:
- The Cyber Security Product Assurance Group (CySPAG): creating and developing a sector-specific assurance framework for security manufacturers and installers.
- Martyn’s Law: providing updates, guidance and stakeholder engagement opportunities to support preparedness for forthcoming legislation.
- PTSN and mobile network switch-offs: providing practical guidance to organisations affected by telecommunications infrastructure changes.
- Cyber Security and Resilience Bill: supporting industry awareness and engagement around future cyber security requirements.
- Fuel resilience planning: leading discussions around the classification of security and fire personnel as key workers in the event of fuel restrictions.
The BSIA continued to celebrate success and raise awareness of the sector through initiatives including the British Security Awards and International Security Officers Day. In 2026, 49 member companies were spotlighted through International Security Officers Day promotions, helping to recognise frontline professionals while promoting security as a skilled and rewarding career. The British Security Awards attracted its biggest audience to date and celebrated excellence across 21 award categories.
The BSIA has also transformed how it reaches and educates the sector. The launch of a new BSIA website created a modern platform for accessing guidance, standards information, industry news and technical resources, delivering a 25% increase in website traffic and introducing online forums for BSIA sections.
