The BSIA has been invited to contribute to an upcoming discussion with a small cross-party group of parliamentarians on the challenges facing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the support needed to encourage investment, growth and long-term business sustainability.
As part of our contribution, we are seeking insight from members on the issues that are having the greatest impact on your business today. These discussions provide an important opportunity to ensure that the experiences and priorities of the security industry are heard directly by policymakers. The BSIA has a history of engaging with parliamentarians and facilitating industry dialogue on matters affecting business and growth.
The discussion is expected to focus on themes including:
- The rising cost of doing business
- Taxation and fiscal policy
- Regulatory burdens and compliance requirements
- Access to finance and investment
- Late payment and cash flow challenges
- Recruitment, skills and workforce development
- Barriers to growth and innovation
- Measures that would encourage greater business confidence and investment
We would welcome your views, examples and practical experiences. In particular, we are interested in hearing:
- What are the biggest challenges currently affecting your organisation?
- Which government policies have had the most significant positive or negative impact?
- What support or reforms would help your business invest, recruit and grow?
- Are there any industry-specific issues that parliamentarians should be aware of?
Please send your comments, evidence, examples or suggested discussion points to the BSIA team by 3 November 2026.
This is a valuable opportunity for the security industry to help inform the political debate around the future of SMEs and ensure that the concerns of our sector are represented at the highest levels of government.
