The Government has extended the use of the CE mark in the UK until 1 January 2023

Tuesday 24 August 2021 - BSIA

The Government has extended the use of the CE mark in the UK until 1 January 2023.

Carl Gibbard, Chair of the BSIA UKCA Special Interest Group states:

“Over the past eighteen months, the BSIA in collaboration with the FIA and others, has engaged with the Government regarding the introduction of the UKCA mark.

It was felt, by the security and fire sector, that the Government had underestimated the impact of dropping the EU CE mark and replacing it with a new UKCA on UK manufacturers. The global pandemic only served to make matters worse.

I am pleased to report that Government has now recognised the problem and acted appropriately issuing the following statement:

“Recognising the impact of the pandemic on businesses, the government will extend this deadline to 1 January 2023 to apply UKCA marks for certain products to demonstrate compliance with product safety regulations, rather than 1 January 2022,” the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

It is encouraging to see what can be achieved by Trade Associations working in conjunction with the Government.
