Boosting UK security exports: the power of public-private partnership

The UK Security and Resilience Industry Suppliers Community (RISC) is pleased to host a webinar in collaboration with the Department for International Trade’s UK Defence and Security Exports (UKDSE) on the latest security export statistics, UKDSE’s security sector capability brochures, and the UKDSE sector specialist programme. RISC is an inclusive alliance of trade associations, suppliers and other organisations that represent the UK’s security and resilience sector and the founding partners of RISC are ADS,BSIA and TechUK. 

The 2019 Security Export Strategy set out how industry will work in partnership with the Government to grow UK security exports. One of the tangible strands of joint work that arose from the strategy has been on producing brochures highlighting the capability of the UK security sector to overseas buyers. The development of these have been led by industry specialists who have been seconded into the department on a part-time basis. The first such brochure, on Major Events Security, was published in March 2021 and the second one on Border Security was released in November 2021. 

To learn more about the sector specialist programme, Peter Lashbrook from PELA Systems and Henry Mitchell from DEA Aviation, the very first industry specialists to take part, will give a presentation on their work developing the brochures and the value that they found, both personally and for their companies, in supporting UKDSE. Simon Goatcher, Assistant Head of Security Exports at UKDSE, will then give an update on UKDSE’s wider activities and the latest work on upcoming capability brochures. Finally, Tracy Buckingham, Deputy Head of Security and Cyber Security Exports at UKDSE, will give a short update on the latest security export statistics. The agenda is as follows:
