Tuesday 23 September 2025 -
With the endorsement of the UK Government and the Security Minister, the security industry is collectively establishing the S12 Security Guarding Industry Senior Leadership Group. This elected council, comprised of twelve senior leaders, will offer executive representation from companies and trade associations of varying sizes operating within the sector. Those selected by the industry will collaborate directly with both government entities and the regulator. The group's mandate includes addressing critical industry challenges, advancing standards and professionalism, enhancing public safety, and positively influencing perceptions of the security guarding sector.
The BSIA is delighted to announce that our Director of Security & Export, John MacAskill is shortlisted as a nominee to represent the BSIA on the group. John is committed to industry advancement, notably through his active engagement with government, regulators, and other trade associations and industry bodies. His contributions and support in initiatives such as Martyn’s Law, Business Licensing, and the IPPS programme reflect his deep understanding of the Security Officers sector's evolving challenges and showcases him as a pioneer in driving meaningful change. John’s inclusion in the S12 Group would ensure that the interest of both SMEs and large organisations is effectively championed, collaborating with the BSIA’s Security Officers Section to foster a united and forward-thinking security sector. His friendly, strategic, and dedicated approach to public safety makes him an ideal candidate to represent the industry at the highest level. As a non-profit organisation with nearly 60 years of rich history, the BSIA is proud to be the voice of the professional security industry, supporting and encouraging excellence across the sector. Led by a knowledgeable and dedicated team of staff and supported by expert working groups, the BSIA works closely with government, police, and industry bodies to influence change and raise the profile of professional security services in the UK. The BSIA is continuously committed to their mission of ‘one voice’, bridging the gap between the public sector, the security industry, and the wider public by working collaboratively with varying bodies, other industry stakeholders, and its membership to address the challenges and changes that the security industry faces at all stages of development.
