Security Systems Technical Committee

The Security Systems Section Technical Committee brings together technical experts from across the security systems industry to address the issues, technologies and standards shaping the sector. Acting on behalf of the Security Systems Section, the committee monitors developments in legislation, policing requirements, certification schemes and British, European and international standards. It works to develop guidance and best practice, identify specialists to represent the industry on key technical forums, and help members navigate emerging technologies, cybersecurity considerations and changes that impact the design, installation and maintenance of security systems.

Key current areas of focus include:

Monitoring and influencing British, European and international security systems standards.
Reviewing regulatory and legislative developments that impact the design, installation and maintenance of security systems.
Representing the industry on technical forums, standards committees and working groups.
Developing guidance documents, codes of practice and technical publications to support best practice.
Supporting the adoption of emerging technologies, including AI, biometrics and cybersecurity measures.
Working with certification bodies, police stakeholders and industry partners to maintain effective and compliant security solutions.
Providing technical expertise on false alarm management, electronic security systems and evolving industry requirements.

Chair: Steve Hardcastle - Chief Technical Officer - Clearway

Steve Hardcastle is an experienced security industry leader and entrepreneur with over 30 years of expertise in security operations, compliance, design engineering, and project management, having led innovative security solutions across various sectors and contributed significantly to the growth of Clearway Group, including pioneering AI-enabled CCTV towers for highways safety, while maintaining strong knowledge of British Standards and GDPR compliance in the sector.
