Improving the image of private security – where are we and what needs to happen?

Monday 28 April 2025 - Perpetuity Research Initiative

The perception of the private security sector is generally recognised as limited by factors such as the existence of stereotypes, the difficulty of shaking off outdated perceptions, and a lack of understanding of the true value of security. While some of the criticisms levelled at private security may be fair, there is growing evidence of the professionalisation of security and the potential that the overall perception does not match the reality. This is not a negligible issue – a poor image has consequences – such as difficulties recruiting capable individuals, being overlooked by others as a potential ‘partner’, being undervalued by procurers, and security leaders having less status than other professionals.

Perpetuity Research is seeking the views of security professionals on:

The aim of the research is to better understand the issues that need to be tackled and the actions needed to bring perceptions in line with reality and to create a positive image.

You can share your views, anonymously, via their survey. It is open to any type of security professional/expert.

The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and the deadline for responses is Friday 23rd May 2025.
