Over £700,000 Social Value Generated by Alstom x FGH Rail Safe Friendly Project

Thursday 09 April 2026 - BSIA Comms

Alstom and FGH Security celebrates a successful first year in partnership with Rail Safe Friendly (RSF).

Through this partnership, their RSF Project has reached 45 schools, educating thousands of young people on the importance of rail safety, and generating over £700,000 in social value.

The Rail Safe Friendly Programme

The Rail Safe Friendly Programme is dedicated to spreading the vital message of rail safety among young individuals, educators, and parents throughout schools in the UK through their innovative Learn Live news channel.

Their mission is rooted in the belief that every child should be equipped with the essential knowledge to navigate the railway environment safely.

They aim to have every school in the UK enrolled on the Programme by 2027.

Outreach to High-Risk Areas

In the planning stages of the project, outreach areas were determined by identifying Alstom sites across the UK that utilise high voltage line equipment and possess the highest of trespassing.

The outreach programme was aimed at schools in the surrounding communities of these sites in Glasgow, Wolverhampton, Greater Manchester, London and Knottingley.

Impact Report

From February 2025 to February 2026, 45 schools were reached, generating 24,612 views of the educational content.

Four schools within the project achieved their Silver Certification by sharing the programme with Parents and Carers, helping to distribute the message with the wider community, and engaging with another school about the programme.

The project concluded with an in-person assembly at Lodge Farm School on 24 February, delivered by Peter Harrison (Managing Director, FGH Security), alongside Matt Hull (Head of Security, UK&I) and Ashley Lowe (Security Manager, UK&I) from Alstom, with the aim of the school achieving its Gold Certificate.

The project concluded with two in-person assemblies at Lodge Farm School on 24 February for Key Stages 1 and 2, delivered by Peter Harrison (Managing Director, FGH Security), alongside Matt Hull (Head of Security, UK&I) and Ashley Lowe (Security Manager, UK&I) from Alstom, with the aim of the school achieving its Gold Certificate. After the age-appropriate assemblies, a year 1 pupil shared “I learned you've got to stay behind the yellow line” whilst a year 6 pupil shared “I found out that electric can jump from the railway and its always active”.

Matt Hull – Head of Security UK&I at Alstom, commented:

“Every piece of work we do around railway safety makes a difference. Education and engagement with young people are vital, and as a key part of the UK’s rail infrastructure, Alstom is proud to work with our security partners to deliver sessions like this. These opportunities allow us to promote safe behaviours, raise awareness, and help young people understand their role in keeping the railway safe.

Peter Harrison, FGH Security Managing Director & Founder, added:

“Like much of the work we do in safety and security, we never get to find out how many accidents we prevent. If our initiative prevents just one child from having trespassed onto the railway, then it has paid for itself a thousand times over. Thank you to Alstom and RSF for the great teamwork.”

Renewed Partnership for 2026-27

Building on the success of year 1, Alstom and FGH Security have renewed their partnership with Rail Safe Friendly, with the aim to support 50 more schools over the next 12 months.
